Faith in the Darkness
A voice of one calling: “In the wilderness prepare the way for the LORD; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain. And the glory of the LORD will be revealed, and all people will see it together. For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.”
(Isaiah 40:3-5)
The arrival of Jesus fills us with hopeful expectations. When we believe in Jesus, our Savior, our faith carries us through the darkest of times. Bringing us into the light. We are able to find joy within our sorrow, because of the peace that Jesus bestowed upon us.
So much of my early years in life I was trying to go about my day without God. Trusting my own instincts instead of trusting in Him. It wasn’t until unimaginable circumstances entered my life that I learned His way was much better than my own.
The valley of unknown and the pit of loneliness blindsided me. Our lives were truly turned upside down. Being told that the life we had envisioned and dreamed of would no longer be. The mountain of pain and sorrow, took every ounce of my strength to maintain my footing. Trying not to fall victim into the luring hands of self pity and destruction that the enemy desired.
It was the Lord that raised me from the valley. It was Jesus that carried me up the mountain, softening the ground. It was Him clearing the debris of pain, providing a straight path to His love and protection.
There are so many shiny things in this world abiding for our attention. The latest new gadgets, the next best thing that everyone says you need. There is only One thing we need. Let it be the Light of Jesus that you long for. Let it be His Light that you want to shine.
It is not always easy to remain in the light. Some days we may feel ourselves fading away. Our light grows dim. Sometimes, all it takes is the simple whisper of His name…Jesus and the spark ignites. When we praise Him for all He has done our troubles begin to fade away.
It is from my mouth, that I can give all glory and honor to our Heavenly Father. He is the One that brought Light to my darkness. He is the One that showed me the way. He is the One that brought truth to my heart. He is the One that reminded me that my life is not my own. My children were not my own. That my life only exists for Him.
Through this advent season help keep hope, faith, joy and peace in your heart. Shine the light of Jesus for all to see.
